Barlow's Wood Classics, a
Springville Utah based wood cabinet and molding manufacturing facility,
generates large amounts of saw dust and wood chips in our manufacturing
processes. Recently the company started making ECO Bricks®, The Wood Burning
Brick®, using quality equipment made in Germany to compress the saw dust and
wood chips into block of wood, roughly the size of the traditional clay
building brick.
The ECO Bricks® can be burned
in fireplaces, wood stoves, camp fires or any place that would normally burn
cord wood. The bricks are packaged to make them easy to store and transport.
ECO Bricks® are made mostly of
hard woods. They burn hotter (from 9,000 to 14,000 BTU's per brick depending on
the species of hardwood), longer, and with less smoke than cord wood. Plus ECO
Bricks® emit fewer particles into the air, while leaving less ash. There are no
additives, such as glue or harmful chemicals, in ECO Bricks®.
Advantages of using Eco Fire Bricks
·
One pallet of Eco Fire Bricks delivers the same
heat as a full cord of wood
·
Eco Fire Bricks are ideally sized for wood
stoves. Packing density is optimized.
You can fill every corner of the stove with high density fuel and extend your
burn times greatly.
·
Eco Fire Bricks produce 1/2 the particulates
(smoke) compared with good cordwood.
·
Less polluting - burning Biomass recycles carbon
in the atmosphere. Oil, gas and coal
pull it from the ground (where it has been for millions of years) and put it in
the air - an average house creates 5 tons of new carbon per year burning fuel
oil.
·
Easy lighting - only needs newspaper.
·
Eco Fire Bricks are 100% wood with very little
ash (typically below 1%) and low
moisture content -> less than half the moisture content of cordwood ->
much more heat makes it into your house instead of converting water into steam
which is lost up the chimney.
·
Twice the density of cordwood – about the same
energy density as coal - extending burn-times by more than 2.5x .
·
Consistent size means more complete combustion
·
No sparks, pops and very low smoke
·
18 Brick packs (approximately 38 lb) at an
economical price - cheaper than oil and much less mess and hassle than
cordwood.
·
No bugs, easier storage, less mess, makes use of
leftover wood.
Burning
Instructions
In order for ECO Bricks® to
ignite and continuously burn they require the heat of other bricks (similar to
barbecue briquettes).
Please use the instructions
below as a guide line to have a successful fire using v.
·
Place ECO Bricks® 1/8"-1/4" apart in a
round or square.
·
Place paper and tinder in the center of the ECO
Bricks®.
·
Place ECO Bricks® partially over the structure
as demonstrated in the photo below.
·
Light the paper and tinder, and the bricks on
the top of the structure should catch fire. As the bricks burn, the heat from
the top bricks and the tinder will ignite the remaining bricks in the
structure.
·
When adding new bricks to the fire they should
be grouped 1/4" to 3/4" apart and should be laid randomly in order to
allow the heat of the fire to engulf the new bricks.
